Michou Phenelus was born in Haiti and moved to the United Stated as a child. He grew up in South Florida and Central Florida. Michou received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 2010 in Anthropology. At the University of Florida, he enjoyed studying abroad and interacting with other students while working at the dining hall.
In 2015, Michou earned his juris doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law. While in law school, he interned at the Department of Veteran Affairs where he drafted legal memoranda, prepared discovery, and assisted in adversarial hearings. Michou also worked at the law library, was a student ambassador, and earned a Leadership Development Certificate upon graduation.
Michou began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender for the 9th Judicial Circuit in Orange County, Florida, where he defended indigent clients in felony criminal matters. Michou was the lead attorney in multiple cases where he obtained many “not guilty” verdicts at trial, case dismissals, or reduced charges. After leaving the Public’s Defender’s office Michou began practicing in the area of liability defense, primary focusing on commercial premises liability, commercial trucking accidents, negligent security, bodily injury, personal injury protection and auto glass cases. Michou is barred in all Florida state courts.
