August was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He received his bachelor’s degree in 2007 from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, where he was a member of the football and swim teams. As a senior, he served as student government president and has since served as president of the alumni association, where he was an ex officio member of the college’s board of trustees. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami in 2011. August began his legal career as a legislative assistant in the Florida Senate, where he drafted bills, analyzed proposed legislation, and met with legislators, policy advocates, and constituents on the Senator’s behalf. He also made a mean cup of coffee.

August then joined a statewide firm representing some of the nation’s largest financial institutions in creditor’s rights actions and title curative matters. In this role, August gained invaluable courtroom experience handling suits from the drafting of complaints through judgment as well as post-judgment litigation. He tried over one hundred bench trials and appeared in circuit court in all 20 of Florida’s judicial circuits and 43 of Florida’s 67 counties. He successfully handled dozens of attorney’s fees matters, resulting in either the striking of entitlement or significant reductions in fee awards. August then spent 6 years as in-house counsel defending large auto insurance carriers handling all stages of litigation. His practice focused on Personal Injury Protection, comprehensive and collision coverage, auto glass claims, and actions for declaratory judgment. Joining Gobel Flakes in 2023, August brings this wealth of experience, continuing to zealously defend our clients in bodily injury, uninsured/ underinsured motorist, Personal Injury Protection, and auto glass claims litigation.

August is admitted to practice before all Florida state courts and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
